Quotations

Uncle Ben “With great power comes great responsiblity.” Spiderman – Once you have a punch which can take a life, great responbility falls upon you when to use it.

Conan's Father “No one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts. [Points to sword.] But this... this you can trust.” Conan the Barbarian – The punch once developed will always be there when you need it.  Unlike a gun, knife, or mace your punch is  part of you.

Obi-Wan Kenobi “Master Yoda says I should be mindful of the future.”
Qui-Gon Jinn “But not at the expense of the present.”  Episode I
– Wing Chun philosophy, here and now is what counts the most.  You’re aware of things that need to be done in the future, however we concentrate on the present the most.

Ian Malcolm “I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!  It’s not a question if you could, but whether or not you should.” Jurassic Park – Wing Chun skill doesn’t give you the right to fight, but the ability to choose if the situation presents itself.   Just coz you can doesn’t mean you need to.

Morpheus “I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it.” Matrix – The only one who can make your wing chun good in the end, is you.

Paris, “Then I'll die fighting.”
Hector, “Oh, and that's sounds heroic to you doesn't it? To die fighting. Tell me little brother, have you ever killed a man?”
Paris, “No.”
Hector, “Ever seen a man die in combat?
Paris, No.
Hector, “I've killed men and I've heard them dying and I've watched them dying and there's nothing glorious about it, nothing poetic. You say you're willing to die for love but you know nothing about dying and you know nothing about love! Troy
– In fighting you decide to fight or run, but in the beginning everyone feels the need to be a hero and show it off.  Be cautious of such ego and learn to control it.

Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi “Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” Return of the Jedi – More to do with wing chun philosophy, right or wrong is all based on a certain point of view.

Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi “Luke, you're going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” Return of the Jedi – Wing Chun allows you to detach to be able to see both sides fairly, after that you can make a decision.

Jack Quinn “Offense gets the glory...”
Yas “...But defense wins the game.” Double Team
– A lousy movie, but the line is worthy to be stated.  Wing Chun defense is what separates us from all other martial arts.

Yoda “Luke, do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor, or suffer your father's fate you will.” Return of the Jedi Clean your karma, for the temptation to use what you’ve learned for the wrong reasons are strong.

Messenger Boy, “They say you can't be killed.”
Achilles, “Well, I wouldn't be bothering with the shield then, would I?” Troy –
Chi sao gives you a sense of security, but don’t be fooled regardless of how good your skill is,  you still can be hit.  Believe in your skill, don’t be full of yourself.

Hector, “Yesterday the Greeks underestimated us. We should not return the favor.” Troy – Regardless of who you fight, never fall under the spell that just because of size, sex, or age should you ever take your opponent for granted.

Morpheus “He's beginning to believe.” Matrix – Everything you’ve learned will only work, if you believe in the person whose doing it.

Yoda, “Control, control. You must learn control.” – This is what seperates Wing Chun from all the arts, control of yourself first, then you can control others.

Gandalf “One stage of the journey is over, another begins” The SLT trials are finally over, another one awaits you in Chum Kiu trials.  Basically, there is a consistent loop in all things that we do.
