Windy City Wing Chun’s Ranking System
There are a total of 3 levels in the Windy City Wing Chun Ranking System. The levels are broken up into 3 shirt categories.
White Shirt (LVL1)
Yellow Shirt (LVL2)
Red Shirt (LVL3)
Black Shirt (Instructor)
Achieving the Red Shirt Ranking (LVL3) does mean you’ve completed the system. The final black level is optional for those students who are interested in taking it to instructor level. The final level is the only one, which has a test in which a student must past in order to receive the black shirt ranking.
The first 3 levels require NO TESTING to advance, but simply a minimum requirement that the student must display before the instructor advances him to the next level. Thus, each student is constantly being observed and corrected during class to meet those minimum requirements and it is the instructor’s final discretion to advance the student. Upon meeting these requirements the student advances to the next level were he/she earns the right to wear the next shirt level and will receive a certificate of completion.
In our approximation the complete art could be learned in 3 years time, however it is theoretically possible that a student can complete the entire art in a year’s time. We’ve designed the curriculum so that will/desire determines the rate at which the student can progress, and not the number of classes or years he/she has been attending. Bottom line, it is up to YOU, the student to dictate how fast you want to go.
Ranking has its privileges
The student rate of payment doesn’t change (high school/college), however adults do in fact get major benefits from getting to the next level. If you get to the next yellow level, the 3 month package its only $200. Thus, you can take advantage of the 3-month package for the entire year, saving an incredible 20% of regular tuition. Feel motivated to get to the 3rd level, now your 3-month package is only $175, which is a whopping 30% savings.
F.A.Q.
1) Why’d we create a ranking system? By creating a ranking system, we felt that this would aid the student with having goals to shoot for in their training. The way the ranking system and curriculum was designed is so that everyone can have an idea where they are at and what they need to improve on. In addition, the curriculum gives them a glimpse at future things that they can work on.
2) How is the curriculum broken down? 3 rankings mean 3 levels in the curriculum. But to give a general idea, the 1st level deals with fighting, 2nd level deals with theory, and 3rd level deals with incredible detail in the art or you could say secrets. So, take the 1st level for example the main goal is to make sure you can protect yourself, once that answer is a yes, we can improve on that skill with further understanding the theory behind why you do the things that you do.
3) If I pass the next level do I get the shirt? Each level that you achieve, gives you the right to wear the shirt. The first shirt of the new level is on us, additional ones need to be purchased by the students.
4) How am I evaluated? If you notice, I’ve attached the minimum requirements for passing to yellow level. In our observation of the students, if we feel that he’s achieved a C level of performing these requirements, then we feel he/she is worthy of the next level.
5) So, is it possible for me to learn the dummy or sword form within the first year? Yes, it’s definitely possible. As long as you meet the requirements, you can literally be learning any of the 6 forms.
6) How will this affect me since I’ve been here for a while? For those students who’ve been with us for awhile, and there are a handful already close or worthy of yellow level. Simply come to class, we observe how your doing things and it’ll be easy to get to yellow level.
