Refers to the concept of concentrating on a single thought. When it comes to fighting, once I’ve made the decision to fight my only focus/thought is to go through my enemy’s center and kill him. Nothing else. I’m not concerned about anything else or what he’s doing.

Obi-wan tried to settle the issue peacefully and calmly. They didn’t want to. He made the decision. He did not hesitate. He had no mercy.
Darth Vader: Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
Guns are great weapons. But they can be taken away and even fail. The skill you develop will always be with.
Greedo: [though some believe he is speaking in Rodian, Greedo is actually speaking Huttese; subtitled] Going somewhere, Solo?
Han Solo: Yes, Greedo. I was just coming to see your boss. Tell Jabba I have his money, at last.

Again, decision, no hesitation, no mercy.

Very rarely will a student actually overtake their teacher in knowledge and skill in their teacher’s life time. To be obsessed with it is foolish. At the heart of the true gung-fu man lies not the desire to be as good as their teacher, but to be the best you can be.
Obi-Wan: Mos Eisley spaceport: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
Always know where you are going. Common sense says if I don’t have to walk down that dark alley with the ten dangerous looking people, then I don’t walk down the alley.

Han: Never tell me the odds!
Darth Vader: Yes, Admrial.
Admrial Piett: Our ships have sighted the Millennium Falcon, my lord. But it has entered an asteroid field and we can not risk...
Darth Vader: Asteroids do not concern me, Admrial. I want that ship, not excuses.
Emperor: The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi.
Darth Vader: If he could be turned, he would be a powerful ally.

[As Luke leaves before completing his training.]
Yoda: Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.
Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi: That boy was our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.
Yoda: Ready are you? What know you of ready? For eight hundred years have I trained Jedi. My own counsel will I keep on who is to be trained. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.
Many times is it a shocking reality to people who base what they know of wing chun from what they see in movies. They are surprised to see and hear the reality of what it takes to achieve skill.
Obi-Wan: Luke. Don't give in to hate. That leads to the Dark Side.
Yoda: Strong is Vader. Mind what you have learned. Save you it can.
Luke: I will. And I'll return, I promise.
While it take time to put the pieces of the chi sau puzzle together, the punch is one of the three basic things that are taught. A good punch can be learned and developed in several months. It’s that punch that can save you.
Yoda: You must unlearn what you have learned.
Wing chun cannot be mixed or matched with other styles. The best way to learn quickly is to start from scratch and be open to what your teacher is saying. Let go of your ego and you’ll develop faster.
Luke: I can't. It's too big.
Yoda: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.
Never judge anyone on their physical size. Big, small it’s all the same. Wing chun is the equalizer of martial arts. Learning to control all the principles of wing chun will teach you how to overcome the enemy who may be bigger, stronger and faster. If you develop the skill, size will matter not. The ability to do one thing is no different other than our point of view. As a child we looked at walking to be difficult, but now we don’t even give it a second thought. It is within us to either put limitations on what we can or can’t do, not the challenges ahead.
Yoda: I am wondering, why are you here?
Luke: I'm looking for someone.
Yoda: Looking? Found someone, you have, I would say, hmmm?
Luke: Right...
Yoda: Help you I can. Yes, mmmm.
Luke: I don't think so. I'm looking for a great warrior.
Yoda: Ohhh. Great warrior.
[laughs and shakes his head]
Yoda: Wars not make one great.
When you’re new to wing chun, the first thing you usually see and want to be able to do is fight. But, for those with the mettle to stay the path, wing chun has so much more to offer.
Luke: All right, I'll give it a try.
Yoda: No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.
In wing chun, just like in life, if you do things half-way, you’ll never get anywhere. If you’re going to set time aside to practice wing chun, take that time to focus only on wing chun. It’s time better spent to focus on practice for five minutes, than space out and practice for 5 hours.
Luke: I don't, I don't believe it.
Yoda: That is why you fail.
In wing chun for your skill to develop, you have to believe in the system. If you think you’re going to get hit, you’ll get hit. If you don’t believe you can catch the ball, you’ll drop the ball. You control your own focus.
Yoda: Control, control, you must learn control!
In wing chun we emphasize the development of control. The more you develop your skill, the more you’ll develop your control. Which is a higher level of skill/control? The driver who can only drive down the raceway, or the driver who is able to zigzag through cones?
Yoda: Yes, run! Yes, a Jedi's strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.
Luke: Vader... Is the dark side stronger?
Yoda: No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.
Luke: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?
Yoda: You will know... when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack
Many are the prospective student who wants the quick fix. They want the fast food martial art. By learning only the physical aspect of wing chun you’ll only be seeing half the picture. Wing chun is equally balanced internally and externally. Without learning to control your anger, fear and aggression, you’ll end up muscling the enemy in the fight. And muscle verses muscle, the weak person always loses.
Luke: I won't fail you. I'm not afraid.
Yoda: You will be. You will be.
When new students start, they come in undaunted by the commitment of training needed. But as the path becomes longer the student becomes intimidated by the length of it. It is your mental fortitude that will carry you on the long path of wing chun.
Yoda: Your weapons, you will not need them.
There are people that like to carry knives or guns. You will not always have them with you. But your skill, that will always be with you.
Luke: We'll never get it out now!
Yoda: So certain are you. Always with you it cannot be done. Hear you nothing that I say?
Again, you need to believe in wing chun to make it work and have it help you. If you’re doubting yourself you need more practice.

Moff Jerjerrod: Lord Vader, this is an unexpected pleasure. We are honored by your presence -
Darth Vader: You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I'm here to put you back on schedule.
Moff Jerjerrod: I assure you, Lord Vader. My men are working as fast as they can.
Darth Vader: Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them.
Moff Jerjerrod: I tell you, this station will be operational as planned.
Darth Vader: The emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation.
Moff Jerjerrod: But, he asks the impossible. I need more men!

Luke: No!
Imperial Officer: You Rebel scum.
Luke Skywalker: Your overconfidence is your weakness.
Emperor Palpatine: Your faith in your friends is yours.
Luke Skywalker: Never. I'll never turn to the Dark Side. You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.
Emperor Palpatine: So be it... Jedi.
Darth Vader: Luke, help me take this mask off.

Darth Vader: Nothing can stop that now. Just for once, let me look on you with my own eyes.
Han Solo: I love you.
Princess Leia Organa: I know.
C-3PO: His high exaltedness, the Great Jabba the Hutt, has decreed that you are to be terminated immediately.
Han Solo: Good, I hate long waits.
C-3PO: You will therefore be taken to the Dune Sea, and cast into the pit of Carkoon, the nesting place of the all-powerful Sarlaac.
Han Solo: Doesn't sound so bad.
C-3PO: In his belly you will find a new definition of pain and suffering as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.
Han Solo: On second thought, let's pass on that, huh?
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Rise my friend.
Darth Vader: The Death Star will be completed on schedule.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: You've done well, Lord Vader. And now I sense you wish to continue your search for young Skywalker.
Darth Vader: Yes, my Master.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Patience my friend. In time he will seek *you* out, and when he does, you must bring him before me. He has grown strong. Only together can we turn him to the Dark Side of the Force.
Darth Vader: As you wish.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.
Yoda: Soon will I rest, yes, forever sleep. Earned it I have. Twilight is upon me, soon night must fall.
Luke Skywalker: I can't kill my own father.
Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi: Then the Emperor has already won. You were our last hope.
Darth Vader: What is thy bidding, my master?
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Send the fleet to the far side of Endor. There it will stay until called for.
Darth Vader: What of the reports of the rebel fleet massing near Sollust?
Emperor Cos Palpatine: It is of no concern. Soon the Rebellion will be crushed and young Skywalker will be one of us! Your work here is finished, my friend. Go out to the command ship and await my orders.
Darth Vader: Yes, my master.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: I told you to remain on the command ship.
Darth Vader: A small rebel force has penetrated the shield and landed on Endor.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Yes, I know.
Darth Vader: My son is with them.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Are you sure?
Darth Vader: I have felt him, my master.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Strange that I have not. I wonder if your feelings on this matter are clear, Lord Vader.
Darth Vader: They are clear, my master.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Then you must go to the sanctuary moon and wait for him.
Darth Vader: He will come to me?
Emperor Cos Palpatine: I have foreseen it. His compassion for you will be his undoing. He will come to you and you will bring him before me.
Darth Vader: As you wish.
Darth Vader: The Emperor has been expecting you.
Luke Skywalker: I know, father.
Darth Vader: So, you have accepted the truth.
Luke Skywalker: I've accepted the truth that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father.
Darth Vader: That name no longer has any meaning for me!
Luke Skywalker: It is the name of your true self, you've only forgotten. I know there is good in you, the Emperor hasn't driven it from you fully. That was why you couldn't destroy me, that's why you won't bring me to your emperor now.
Darth Vader: I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete, indeed you are powerful as the emperor has foreseen.
Luke Skywalker: Come with me.
Darth Vader: Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the *power* of the Dark Side, I *must* obey my master.
Luke Skywalker: I will not turn, and you'll be forced to kill me.
Darth Vader: If that is your destiny.
Luke Skywalker: Search your feelings, Father, you can't do this. I feel the conflict within you. Let go of your hate.
Darth Vader: It is too late for me son. The Emperor will show you the true nature of the Force. He is your master now.

Emperor Cos Palpatine: Welcome, young Skywalker. I have been expecting you. You'll no longer need those. [Luke's handcuffs fall from his wrists] Guards, leave us. I'm looking forward to completing your training. In time you will call *me* master.
Luke Skywalker: You're gravely mistaken, you won't convert me as you did my father.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Oh no, my young Jedi. You will find that is is you who are mistaken, about a great many things.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design. Your friends, up there on the sanctuary moon, are walking into a trap, as is your Rebel fleet. It was *I* who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator! It is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops awaits them! Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Come, boy, see for yourself. From here, you will witness the final destruction of the Alliance and the end of your insignificant rebellion. [Luke's eyes go to his lightsaber.] You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Jedi weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger! With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant.
Luke Skywalker: No.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. You, like your father, are now mine.
Emperor Cos Palpatine: Good! Use your aggresive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.
Luke Skywalker: Your thoughts betray you, Father. I feel the good in you, the conflict.
Darth Vader: There is no conflict.
Luke Skywalker: You couldn't bring yourself to kill me before and I don't believe you'll destroy me now.
Darth Vader: You underestimate the power of the Dark Side. If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny.

In fighting you decide to fight or run. In the beginning everyone feels the need to be a hero and show it off. Be careful not to misunderstand the reality of taking a life. Weather is karma or dealing with today’s politically correct legal system, there are consequences.
