4th Annual Student Appreciation WCWC

This year’s eat out will be on February 9th Saturday at 2:00pm at Hema’s Restaurant.  We’ll go to the original one at 6406 N. Oakley Ave, pretty much a block from the corner of Devon and Oakley.  Just in case you didn’t know this is both our treat, so enjoy and eat.   I’ve been going to Hema’s for almost 12+ years, during my college time and before it got popular and exploded in popularity after it aired on “Check Please”  Since then Mrs. Potla opened a 2nd restaurant and I’ve been trying to convince her to make a 3rd one in the Northwest Suburbs.   If anything it might be best to carpool to the location, since parking really sucks in that area.  And, if you’ve never had Indian food before, then you’ve really missed out.   The food is excellent, and if just mention if can’t handle a certain level of spicy.  I have to admit, I did hit a chicken dish once that was so hot, “i could see through time.”

Now that we’ve announced a date and time, please email us ASAP so we have a general head count of how many people are coming to the event.  I don’t believe Hema’s takes reservation, but hopefully the time we picked will be after peak lunch.

Arizona 2008 Seminar

Its official we have set date already right from Simo, and its May 1 - May 4th, Thurs - Sun.  I will try to do is give a guide to everything and anything that you wanted to know if you plan to make a trek out to Sifu’s school and check out the seminar.  I’ll try to break down everything in categories, but let’s start with the most important issue.. Money?

How much for everything to AZ?

Seminar - Assuming Sifu keeps everything the same as far as price, your looking at somewhere in the ballpark of 600 - 700 for the 4 days.  Now, a couple of things regarding this, the first 2 days is considered instructors seminar and the weekend is referred to as the reunion seminar.   Regardless, of the fact, you can attend all 4, or just the weekend, or just 1 day.  So, its entirely up to you.  You can read last years info here.

As for other expense, right now Ken and I are looking to go there from Tuesday and leave on Monday, so that’s the 29th - May 5th.  Airfare and hotel per person is coming out to 462, and its a typical hotel like a days inn and were flying direct as always with American.  The reason we leave on Monday, is usually there are no late flights out of Tucson, so seminar usually ends at around 4 or 5, and since your there you might as well stay for the entire thing.   My recommendation, definitely if you can find a partner to split a room then do so, and you’ll need a car to move around.  I believe we can usually get the crappiest of 4 wheelers for about $125 - $165.

As for food, its been 8 years that we’ve gone to Arizona, and literally we’ve tried almost everywhere, and budget and taste wise, these are the only places you can go and won’t be so disgusted eating Jarred’s subways all day.   Sauce, WingStop, Beyond Bread... that’s literally all we ever hit now, with maybe an occasional TGIF, Applebee’s etc.

Now, you can also save even more money if you hang out with April, and camp out with the Mountain Lions, and no I’m not kidding, she’s done that several times.

Major tip, is make sure and decide if you want to do this or not.  No pressures at all to attend, if your really into it and you got the cash, then go for it.  Also, do not pay last minute or at the door, you will eat major late payment fees from Simo and she will not bend for anyone.  So, check the dates once Sifu post all the new information and pay close attention to cancelations and latest you can pay.

And, if you do decide to go, train hard to the months leading up to the seminar.  The harder you train the more you’ll get out of anything.  I’ve always said, you still benefit from a seminar regardless of your experience or if you haven’t trained in awhile.  However, training hard is like creating puzzle pieces, it maybe jumbled up, but when you finally come to the seminar and see SIfu, all that hard work comes into play and he literally helps you put it together.  Without the training, you got nothing to really piece together, get it.

7th Annual WCWC Seminar

We’ve also got set, and thank the gods once again, another seminar with Sifu Fong, and it’ll be Oct 25th.  More details on this, but expect this to be run very differently from any of our past seminars.
